NO- Let’s put it in Perspective (Part 2)

When we tell people no, we tend to feel like we’re letting them down. Because we feel this way about the word no, we also feel bad when we tell people no. So, do you find yourself saying yes when you really mean no?

When someone asks us to do something, we tend to automatically say yes, without any thought. We might even believe that we’re the only ones that can do the task. This is how we quickly become overwhelmed. We take on too much because we don’t say no. In part 1 of this blog, we determined that the word no isn’t a bad word. We need to change our perspective of the word and then learn how to use it with grace and confidence.

Letting go of the self-imposed guilt for telling someone no is part of the process. Understand that just because someone asked you to do something doesn’t mean you have to do it, you’re the best person to do it or that you’re obligated to do it. If you really take time to think about it, you may have a better alternative. Knowing and understanding, you don’t have to say yes every time someone asks you to do something is the first step.
